In this policy brief, Jessica Clement, Asel Doranova, Sabina Hodžić, and Nevelina Pachova summarise key findings and potential solutions for improving the engagement of marginalised communities in Territorial Just Transition Plans (TJTPs).
The policy brief highlights the importance of addressing the priorities of these communities, ensuring their direct involvement in decision-making processes, and integrating their needs into more inclusive and contextually relevant frameworks. The insights are based on collaborative research across multiple European regions, with a focus on aligning the objectives of TJTPs with local community priorities. This policy brief was produced as part of the BOLSTER project in a joint effort by the authors from CIRAD, Tilburg University, FTHM, and RMIT Europe.
The BOLSTER project is a Horizon Europe funded project that focuses on understanding how marginalised communities are affected by European Green Deal (EGD)-related policies and to see whether involving them in decision-making processes increases the support for transition plans. The project, in which Bankwatch is a partner, is coordinated by Tilburg University and started in September 2022. Find more about the project here.
