Navigating the just transition: Lessons from Spain

During the current Spanish presidency of the European Union, the just transition has been a recurring topic. To address the challenges of the Europe-wide energy transformation, the Spanish government is taking a proactive approach to the just transition by rolling out an ambitious framework of measures and governance structures, involving multiple sources of funding and a diverse group of stakeholders.

At our webinar, we explored the measures undertaken in Spain to facilitate the transition, as well as the opportunities and challenges that vulnerable groups in the just transition regions face as polluting sectors are phased out to make way for the green economy.

Our panellists:

Julian Martinez Bejerano – Technical Advisor at the Just Transition Institute, Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge of Spain

Nevelina Pachova – Research and Innovation Advisor at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) Europe

The discussion was led by Miłosława Stępień, Just Transition Campaign Coordinator at CEE Bankwatch Network.
